The Pygmy Date Palm is a popular miniature palm perfect for small gardens or containers. It requires well-draining soil and regular watering, especially during the hot summer months. Be careful of the sharp spines at the base of the fronds when pruning or working around the plant. It can tolerate full sun but looks best with some afternoon shade in extremely hot climates. Feed twice a year with a slow-release palm fertilizer to maintain deep green foliage and prevent potassium deficiency (which causes frizzled leaf tips). Water at the base to prevent crown rot.
