Ficus Nitida

Ficus Nitida, commonly known as the Indian Laurel Fig, is an exceptionally resilient and fast-growing evergreen. When newly planted, it requires deep, regular watering to establish a strong root system. Once mature, it is moderately drought-tolerant but thrives with consistent soil moisture. Pruning should be done in late winter or early spring to shape the canopy, control size, and prevent the foliage from becoming too dense, which can lead to interior die-back. Be aware that the root system can be aggressive, so avoid planting too close to foundations, block walls, or plumbing. For optimal growth, apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Watch out for thrips or whiteflies, which can occasionally affect new growth. Protect young trees from severe frost below 30°F.
