The Fence Aloe (Aloe tenuior) is a sprawling, climbing succulent perfect for training up fences or sprawling over retaining walls. It thrives in well-draining, sandy soil and requires very little water once established. In extremely hot inland climates, it benefits from light afternoon shade to prevent the leaves from bleaching or curling. It is incredibly easy to propagate from stem cuttings. Prune back any dead or damaged stems in early spring to encourage bushy new growth. Watch out for aloe mites (aloe cancer) and treat immediately if abnormal, gall-like growths appear.
