St. Catherine's Lace (Eriogonum giganteum) is a massive, sprawling California native shrub that produces spectacular flat-topped clusters of tiny white flowers that age to a rusty brown. It is a magnet for native bees and butterflies. This plant demands excellent drainage and full sun. It is incredibly drought-tolerant and requires NO summer water once established-summer watering can easily kill it by promoting root rot in warm soil. Prune carefully; cutting into old wood may prevent regrowth. Simply deadhead the spent flower stalks if a tidier look is desired.
