Salvia 'Pozo Blue' is a highly fragrant California native hybrid that is indispensable for drought-tolerant, wildlife-friendly gardens. It requires full sun and fast-draining soil. Like many native sages, it expects a dry summer dormancy. Water deeply but infrequently during the winter and spring, and sharply restrict water during the summer months. To prevent the plant from becoming woody and leggy, cut back the stems by about one-third in late fall or early winter just as the first rains begin. Never prune into bare wood below the lowest leaves.
